Amongst palm tree skeletons, white sand and safety orange parasols, a night patrol of disembodied feet is on a searching quest; are they looking for a lost friend, a runaway offender or are they coming for YOU?

“SPF 50+/ BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU” is a large-scale installation, a nightscape of horror reversing the paradisial image of Greece, as created within tourism’s imaginary.

This work was made in response and in support to the 2021 Me Too movement that took place in Greece. "BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU" is an urge for disobedience -a prompt to interrogate one's privileges, to question where the "food" is really coming from and why. As a white person who was socialized as a woman growing up in a nuclear, middle-class family, this is a personal reminder that sometimes resistance happens internally, in unlearning, deconstructing and refusing to comply in oppressive structures which might falsely present themselves as nurturing. Empowerment and accountability are two processes that can happen simultaneously.

“SPF 50+/BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU” was exhibited alongside “Family Portrait/ ότι αγαπώ είναι για λίγο”. More info here.

"SPF 50+/ Don't bite the hand that feeds you" was shown as part of the Goldsmiths MFA Fine Art degree show 2021

Screen-print on terry fabric, orange parasol, ceramic palm trees, beach sand, searching torch, video projection.
