"BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YOU" is an urge for disobedience -a prompt to interrogate one's privileges, to question where the "food" is really coming from and why. As a white person who was socialized as a woman growing up in a nuclear, middle-class family, this is a personal reminder that sometimes resistance happens internally, in unlearning, deconstructing and refusing to comply in oppressive structures which might falsely present themselves as nurturing. Empowerment and accountability are two processes that can happen simultaneously.
